Joseph H Chang MD is a respected board-certified Ophthalmologist with over 20 years of experience in Oculoplastic Surgery and Facial Aesthetics. His journey began in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he graduated valedictorian from Farragut High School. At Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was both an Emory Scholar and a Phi Beta Kappa honoree. He completed his medical training at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA Medical Center, specializing in Ophthalmology and Oculoplastic Surgery.
Known for his skill and precision, Dr. Chang has successfully performed thousands of surgical procedures. He leads a dedicated team, providing patients with world-class care and the latest technologies. He is also recognized for his exceptional attention to aesthetic detail, ensuring a comfortable environment for his patients.
Beyond his practice, Dr. Chang actively contributes to his community as the founder and past president of the Advanced Center for Eye-Care in Bakersfield, California. He has served on numerous boards, both public and private. A partial list includes CSUB School of Arts and Humanities, Arts Council of Kern, Santa Barbara Museum of Contemporary Art.

"For many years I’ve been a consultant for Galderma, one of the leading manufacturers of injectable products in the country (including Dysport®, Restylane®, and Sculptra®). They send me to various locations regularly to train other doctors and nurse injectors to improve their techniques. Sometimes I give presentations to a room full of very experienced providers; this kind of professional interaction is extremely valuable to help me to stay abreast of the latest developments in our field. If there’s any new procedure, I don’t have to be the first to try it, I can consult trusted colleagues and get relevant opinions. Gaby’s professional journey with Dr. Chang began in 2018, initially serving as an Ophthalmic Technician. Her diligence and dedication saw her rise to the position of his Specialized Aesthetic Scribe shortly after. Upon the inception of Modern Aesthetic Institute, Gaby assumed the vital role of Practice Manager, displaying stellar leadership and managerial skills. However, Gaby’s versatile role doesn’t stop at managing the practice. Occasionally, you may catch a glimpse of her at the front office warmly welcoming patients or escorting them in preparation for their treatments, embodying the spirit of our patient-centered care.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the office, Gaby is a family-oriented individual who loves soaking in precious moments with her loved ones. Her free time often consists of thrilling weekend trips and delightful shopping sprees with her daughter, creating memories to last a lifetime.

Bri graduated from Bakersfield College as a Registered Nurse and has extensive experience in the medical field. Prior to transitioning to nursing, Bri served as an Air Force Medic for eight years and as an Emergency Room Technician for five years.
Her professional journey has been driven by a deep-seated passion for health and wellness, particularly in assisting others in feeling and appearing their best.
Bri has furthered her education in Aesthetics by attending the Wake Up Beautiful Academy for Aesthetic Injectors, American Association of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery, along with completing both web-based and hands-on training in injectables, laser treatments, and skincare techniques that she is eager to share with patients. She is dedicated to providing personalized care that aligns with the highest standards of safety, ethics, and professionalism.

Denise has over 30 years of extensive experience in the Aesthetics and Medical fields, including over 14 years of experience working with Dr. Chang, bringing her diverse wealth of knowledge and skills to Modern Aesthetic Institute. Having fulfilled roles as Surgical Coordinator, Ophthalmic Technician, and now as a Specialized Aesthetic Scribe working alongside Dr. Chang, Denise continues to enjoy her journey of growth with MAI.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Denise cherishes time with her family, whether it’s cheering on her son as he races his Baja Bug, enjoying movies, or pursuing her passion for dance. Family, including her three children and three grandchildren, holds the utmost importance in her life.

Melissa, is our Surgery Scheduler, she has been the one keeping our surgeries running smoothly for the past year and a half, and has been a crucial part of our team since 2019, always bringing her A-game and helping us be the best we can be.
Outside of work, Melissa is a supermom of two, you can find her watching movies with her family, or in the park with her kids. Melissa knows it’s the simple things in life that matter most.
