The eyelids are often one of the first facial features to be affected by age. Eventually, getting enough rest just isn’t enough to give your eyes that youthful sparkle.
Transconjunctival lower eyelid blepharoplasty is the most commonly performed lower eyelid surgery. It is a shorter procedure than upper eyelid surgery and takes only about 15 minutes. The orbital fat pads (the anatomy that causes the under-eye bags) are trimmed. It does not require any external incisions, eliminating the need for stitches and associated scarring. Complications, such as excessive bleeding, are rare.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia under the care of an anesthesiologist.

Many people combine lower eyelid surgery with upper eyelid surgery. While upper eyelid surgery may be covered by insurance if deemed medically necessary, lower blepharoplasty is always considered cosmetic. By combining the upper and lower eyelid surgeries into one procedure, patients may benefit from savings in recovery time, convenience, and cost.
